Happy

I pulled a plant out of the ground today to see
If it would fade away as suddenly as me
Without the solid earth I place my feet upon
Without the sun and air to which I belong
If I was taken and uprooted from this place
Would I just disappear without a trace
Oh no, I don’t think so
No, No, No I don’t think so

I stood for several years just rooted to the spot
In the vain hope I might stake a claim to my own plot
I moved away some and to my surprise I found
I hadn’t even left an impression on the ground
Could this mean bigger things are surely on their way
Could this mean perseverance will reward some day
Oh no, I don’t think so
No, No, No I don’t think so

And that’s why I’m happy, happy
That’s why I’m happy yeah, happy yeah, happy

I’ve hung around for years just an old familiar face
A little feature in the picture of this place
A smaller player in the bigger scheme of things
Just pushing for position with the others in the wings
But now I feel this urge to jump to centre stage
Will I land clear in my attempt to come of age?
Oh no, I don’t think so
No, No, No I don’t think so

And that’s why…..

Now I’m aware of just how thin
My claim to fame has always been
A little portion now would do just fine
A plastic knife and fork will do
The silver service stays with you
Just lead me to the table when you dine, when you dine

Now I’m aware…
